Born in the central Texas area and raised in Houston, Boomer Norman was offered music education at an early age.  After studying guitar and bass through his teen years, and playing both instruments at Houston’s High School for Performing and Visual Arts, he moved to Austin in 1984 and shifted his focus to guitar exclusively.

In the course of the last 20 plus years, Boomer has honed his skills playing a wide variety of music as a sideman with countless bands and other like-minded musicians.   Throughout much of the 1990’s Boomer played and recorded with both the Walt Lewis Band and Don McAllister’s Cowboy Jazz Review.   Boomer’s guitar was featured on Walt Lewis’ “Wrong Wrong Wrong” CD, as well as Don McAllister’s recordings “Brand New Ways” and “Love Gone Right”.    During this time he had the opportunity to share the stage and studio with the legendary Texas fiddler Johnny Gimble, piano great Floyd Domino, and jazz/swing vocalist Mary Ann Price.     In 1996,  Boomer was called to fill in for the Geezinslaw Brothers regular guitar player at Willie's Fourth of July Picnic in Luckenbach, Texas.   In the fall of 1996 Boomer toured Italy with Don McAllister.

From the early 90’s Boomer has worked with country singer Lost John Casner playing venues in the Austin area and throughout the state of Texas.   Boomer played on John’s 2001 CD release “Don’t Make Me Laugh While I’m Drinking.”   You can still find Boomer playing with Lost John around the state today.

In 1996, Boomer began working with Austin singer/pianist/accordion player Debra Peters and her band The Love Saints.   For several years Boomer played country music, Cajun and Zydeco music, western swing, rock and roll, and the blues with Debra most Tuesday nights at the world famous Broken Spoke.

From 1997 to 2002, Boomer performed, recorded and toured with Jim Stringer and the AM Band, a group of talented musicians playing a wide variety of jazz, western swing, country, and rock and roll.    In June of 1999, the AM Band released their first recording, “Swang,” and in June of that year performed at the 3rd Annual Twangfest in St. Louis, Missouri.    In 2000, the band released their second CD titled “On the Radio.”

For the last twelve years, Boomer has been a member of Stop the Truck, playing original country, western swing, rock and roll, and reggae.   Stop the Truck has recorded three CD’s.   They have performed widely in Texas, and have toured Europe three times.  One of the European highlights was selling out the Rail Theatre in Lyon, France, in February, 2001.    In the summer of 2002,  Stop the Truck performed two nights during the Equiblues Music Festival in southern France.   Plans are currently being made for a fourth European tour for the summer of 2007.

Boomer has also been performing reggae with Stop the Truck's alter ego band, The Mau Mau Chaplains.    The Mau Mau's have performed at the Austin Bob Marley Festival the past four years in a row,  played the 2005 SXSW free concert at Auditorium Shores, and have opened shows for Julien Marley, Yellowman, and the Itals.   Eeyore also invited the Mau Mau's to play at his birthday party in April, 2005.

In the Spring of 2006 Boomer was invited to play with Austin’s legendary gospel group The Bells of Joy.

Throughout his career Boomer has, from time to time, fronted his own band, including the Swing Potatoes in the early 90’s.   Over the last three years, Boomer has been stepping out of his sideman roll more often to front the Boomer Norman Trio, and to perform solo.     The Trio’s focus is jazz standards, also performing western swing, some Latin jazz, and when the mood is right, even a Chuck Berry tune.   The Trio has performed two years in a row at the Winter Jazz Festival in Wimberley, Texas.

Boomer is also booking out as a solo guitarist on acoustic guitar with minimal amplification.  Musical selections include jazz standards, ballads, swing music, a few Beatles tunes, and Christmas music for the season.   Boomer’s solo performances are perfect for dinner or listening music, and goes well with red wine or a latte.

The Boomer Norman Trio,   or Boomer playing as a solo,  is available for wine tastings, receptions, parties, and corporate events.
